Treatment

Currently, there is no approved treatment or cure for choroideremia (CHM). But there is hope. In recent years, CHM research has made incredible advances. Gene therapy treatments have already entered clinical trials, and some results have been very promising, offering the possibility of the first-ever treatment for CHM in the future.

Individuals interested in participating in clinical trials will need to have their CHM diagnosis confirmed through genetic testing.

The Choroideremia Research Foundation (CRF) is dedicated to supporting research that could lead to a cure or treatment. Your support is urgently needed to help us achieve our goal of restoring sight to people with CHM worldwide. Protecting your vision

Based on guidance from CHM researchers, there are steps you can take to support retinal health:

  • Eat a healthy diet rich in fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables.
  • Wear sunglasses with UV protection in bright sunlight.
  • Consider using blue light screen protectors on mobile devices or computer screens (research shows blue light does not harm the retina but can affect sleep).
  • Avoid smoking.
