Dan Peterson Breaks The Ice!
April 20th, 2015 by Cory MacDonald
Congratulations to Team CHM member Dan Peterson, who completed his first of 5 runs this year for the CRF! His first run was the “Break the Ice 5k” in Sleepy Eye, MN on April 11th. He is running 5k’s while building up to running a half marathon on October 18th (the Mankato Half Marathon). His next 5k run will be the Sleepy Eye Medical Center 10th Annual 5k run on May 9th. We asked Dan for his thoughts on his first of five runs this year:
“Going into that run I was nervous, I have been injured since mid-December. A month before the run, I felt better started training, only to re-injure myself. I started feeling decent a few days before the run. Starting out I felt good, using running tips from my cousin Jenny, and just being mindful of how I felt. Coming to the end of 3.1 miles it was uphill but I felt good at the finish. My total time was: 31:25 which put me at a pace of 10:06 per mile average. I feel very accomplished with these things, as I have never been a runner/athlete, except for sand volleyball with a beer on the side. It’s a good feeling to raise awareness for something I use to hide from. Now, rather than running from it, I’m running FOR it. I was the second fastest male in the 30-39 age group, and there was more than 2 to my surprise, there was actually 9!”
